The Story

alexandra ni was born in 1984 in the south of soviet kazakhstan to a siberian-korean family. she was raised in a creative environment by her mother and aunt, who were dressmakers, from whom she learned sharp precision in cutting and sewing, and delicate care for fabrics. alexandra started designing her own clothes at the age of 13. her formal education consists of a degree in the history of world culture from st. petersburg state university of culture and arts, and she also studied cultural anthropology at fribourg university (switzerland). after a few years of work in swiss private banking, she rediscovered her childhood dream to be a fashion designer and left zurich for berlin in the autumn of 2010 to study fashion design at the globally renowned esmod international university of art for fashion. as part of her search to expand her knowledge and practice, alexandra attended intensive courses at the legendary central st. martins school in london.

the label “alexandra ni“ was launched in berlin in october 2012, emphasizing the art couture approach and exclusivity of her work. alexandra ni is a limited edition handmade line of women’s clothing, worn internationally in paris, zurich, moscow, oslo, london, and now northern florida, featuring only high quality natural fabrics and original design combining european aesthetics and asian sensibilities. her goal is to create timeless pieces of clothing that will grow with and be shaped by the wearer’s personality.

alexandra ni frequently collaborates with visual artists, and her pieces have been featured in a number of art projects.

the designer currently lives and creates in jacksonville, florida.
